King's Row

"King's Row" is the best movie on this list because former Pres. Ronald Regan as one of the main characters. "Parris Mitchell"(the main character) has a passion for medicine that we see at the beginning of the film when a friend's father goes through an amputation that no pain reliever was given. apart from that the female friend to Parris (her dad is the doctor, this kinda matters later), takes her out of school and home-schooled, oh, and both Parris and "Drake" are orphans. Years later, Parris, returns to king's  row after leaving for med. school receives an offer as a doctor's apprenticeship to Cassandra Tower's father(the man who pulled her out of school years ago). During his time with Mr. Tower he gets close to Cassandra and it comes as a surprise that when Parris receives a letter that is an invitation to work in Vienna's medical school, she wants to go with him to there or anywhere that's not King's row. He says that he couldn't do that to her father and refuses to take her with, she acts all dramatic and runs away from him. The following morning we learn why she wanted to leave that house. Mr. Tower kills his daughter and himself during the night and in his note and will leaves the house to Parris. He decides to leave for Vienna to clear his head and to continue his study. This is where Drake truly starts his story, and his fall into poverty. This whole time I wasn't giving his whole story because he's not the main character, but he is important. While Parris was still in King's row, he was trying to date this one woman who I cant remember the name of, her parents never liked him and he tried to marry her, the parents won't let that happen and she's promptly broken up with. This movie takes place before any of the bank precautions we have now were in place and this detail becomes really important in a moment. He tries to start a business with the inheritance he got when his parents died, he tried to pull some of that money out and the bank said they couldn't, the manager stole the money and left, leaving him with no money and no place to go. Did I mention that in this time he got a new girlfriend, who's poor, well, yeah, that happened and he turns to them for a place to stay and a job. this is the point of no return for his old life because when he was working on the rails a train hits him and his legs are removed. Parris returns as a fully fledged doctor and visits his old home only to find a new family living in it. He hears about Drake and sees him almost on arrival, he's depressed and Parris looks into what happened to and it turns out that the only doctor in town  had cut off his legs as revenge for leaving his daughter. Parris decides to take on the role of getting Drake to feel better about his situation and it works because he told him the truth about what happened and he starts to care again. Super mega happy ending, right?

"The Star"

"The Star". To put is simply it's your standard love story about a movie star who fell out of the spotlight and has to coup with that she's washed up as an actor. She was a really good one since she had won a academy award, she just lost everything when she tried to produce movies herself and failed horribly. We meet our "star" walking past an auction where her stuff is being sold away. She meets with her agent about her rise back for her last big role, a role he's not trying to give her easily. These movies always follow a there; a bad thing happens, the main character refuses to accept their lot in life and works to change it. Back to the point, she's a actor down on her luck who got arrested and now may not get a gig again. Not too much happens past that and it's a generic 50's love story.

Lifeboat

"Lifeboat" is about surviving on lifeboat with a "colorful" cast of characters you'd expect from a WW2 setting. The scene: a U-boat attacks a US battleship but just before the torpedo hits, the U-boat was struck by the same and  went down. Our survivors are starting to gather on the only remaining lifeboat and the only floating thing for miles. the last person to get in and the least trusted is a survivor of the German U-boat since he is the only one with navigation skills they form an uneasy peace so they can get home. Over time, certain things happen, a woman loses her baby when the boat sinks and kills herself by throwing herself off the lifeboat with a rope attached to the far end of is, so, she hanged herself and drowned, she really wanted to die. Another thing that happens is when the German man is found out to be the Capitan of the U-Boat, and he's been leading then to a germen camp to become P.O.W.s. Overall, this movie is a fantastic and a must see. I don't want to go too far into the movie in fear of spoilers but I hope you check it out!!
